International Eco Camp 2014 is coming up!

40 high school students from Bulgaria and Norway will have the opportunity to get immersed into creative mode and come up with ideas for innovative sustainable businesses that contribute to solving pressing environmental challenges around the globe. The Eco Camp will take place in the village of Momchilovtsi (Rhodope Mountains) in Bulgaria from October 2nd to October 7th, 2014.

The Eco Camp is realized as a culmination of activities in the project “Green entrepreneurship for sustainable development”. It is financed within the NGO Programme in Bulgaria within the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2009-2014. The participants in it will be 40 students from Bulgaria and Norway at the age of 15-19, who, for a period of one week, will be part of many practical activities, aiming to improve their knowledge and to develop their skills to create environmentally friendly businesses. The participating students were chosen among the 80 students who took part in the online video course in green entrepreneurship based on the knowledge they showed in the quizzes, the team assignment and the individual assignment, as well as based on activity and quality of comments they posted below the videos and the motivation they demonstrated to take part in the Eco Camp and develop further.

The program of the Eco Camp provides visits to ecological enterprises in the region around the village of Momchilovtsi, team games and a final challenge in the form of “Innovation camp”. During the innovation camp the participants, separated into teams, will be provided with a challenge, related with the reasonable use of natural resources and the creation of profitable eco businesses. They will have 24 hours, Internet access and the advices of business volunteers in order to develop an innovative solution. All teams will present their ideas in front of a jury and Junior Achievement Bulgaria and Ungt Entreprenorskap Sogn og Fjordane, the partners in the project, will support the best three teams so they can further develop their ideas with access to mentors and the opportunities for subsequent financing.

The project “Green entrepreneurship for sustainable development” is targeting the problems of the environment and aims to inspire young people to create ideas for sustainable business. In the framework of the project, 80 ambitious youngsters already received a solid basis as green entrepreneurs, participating in a three-month online educational course, which familiarized them with the global ecological problems, the principles of sustainable development and the successful examples of young green entrepreneurs.
